996 GT3 or 360 Modena ?
Discussion
Hi,
Both are epic supercars. Drive both of them and make your mind up from there.
Ferrari 360 needs cambelts every 3 years from memory and set you back around £1000 for the service. The F1 version does go through clutches and the system can give trouble from memory when I used to work on them.
I am slighty biased as I own a GT3 but personally think the 360 is a nicer looking car.. (gets my flame suit ready!)

Not exactly the standard 360, but this video (http://youtu.be/BQ5eHMmVwqw) may be useful to help you have a comparison.
When I looked into this 'issue' a couple of years ago I was set for the 360 as ultimately I found it more exciting based on looks and noise. Having said that the GT3 is probably a better car and also somewhat more useable if that matters to you.

I went from a 993 turbo 430bhp to 360modena:
- modena was slower, felt slower on day to day life
- modena was never tracked as fear of breaking down, 993turbo w regularly tracked at Bedford
- modena was as reliable as the 993turbo engine wise
- modena needed new ball joints after 10kmiles, door latch was unreliable (not so good going on holiday with left door only operating from inside)
- servicing was similar in cost
- modena steering never felt as sharp and tight as in the 993turbo, however compensated by the engine central position hence quite balanced, easier to drive to the limit
- modena feels more special to drive around, 996 is a 996 (not the sexiest beast out there IMO)
Sorry i cannot compare to a 996GT3, but IMO totally different animals. My current steed is a 7.1 GT3 RS.
Best to try them both before buying. Against the 996 GT3 i'd take the modena any day just for the looks and sense of occasion. Did i mention the exhaust not when unplugged? To die for
GT3 cannot compete on that level!
Note: i am currently contemplating selling my RS to go to either aircooled RS or Challenge Stradale (while i dont have children)

I've got a PHer friend who has owned a GT3 & currently has a 360 spider & I'll see if I can get him to send you an email...he has also had a 355 & his experiences are quite interesting especially as his 360 is very low mileage. If you are after a car that is more show & an event when you go out, especially with SWMBO, the 360 is IMHO the one particularly if you are only a fair weather driver!

One of the few F cars I'd like to get into, not sure it would be a long term relationship (I don't do noisy cars, and they're incredibly loud on the road as I understand it ?) But without going to a 430 Scud, they're probably one of the few F cars that's as focused as any GT3, be it a 996 or 997 ?My 360 gives me morning wood, my 911 only a semi.
Two very different cars, go and drive them both.
My 360 has been more reliable than my 911, so that old chestnut doesn't cut any slack with me. And yes the 360 can be twitchy, but get the geo' sorted out by someone who knows and forget about it.
The 911 is great, the Ferrari an occasion.
