Very cheap 500 on ebay
Discussion
When a car is 15+ years old, I would worry much more about condition than mileage.
It would concern me more that it apparently hasn't been garaged for (at least) the last 6 years.
For those that like it, the headlight conversion would be seen as a bonus I should think.
However, those that want a 500 with headlight conversion are the minority.
The big prices are generally for the all original cars.
The trouble with mods like that is you can easily end up paying for them twice; once when you do them, and again when you sell the car.
To be fair to the seller, he probably got the car a bit cheaper because mileage was not provable, and has realised that the headlight conversion may have actually devalued the car a bit, or at least reduced the size of his potential market.
Paint looks in good condition, so if quad headlights is your thing it's a bargain, assuming there is nothing seriously wrong with it.

Went to view this car , the paint job is poor and the blending of the headlight conversion is visible and not of good quality. Also after carrying out a VIC Check before we went to view it, came back as a Cat D. After questioning the owner several times about why the whole car had been painted and the head light conversion had been done, not letting on that we knew he did not inform us that is was a Cat D. Just goes to show how important a check can be!
Not to say that the car wouldn't be a good buy for someone if they were fully aware of what they were buying. I personally would be upset if i handed over that kind of money and later found out it was a CAT D.

This guy is being dishonest at least, and if he is aware of the cars history he should be shot. Saying that......can we try amongst us to clear up some of the following questions. Not to say that the car wouldn't be a good buy for someone if they were fully aware of what they were buying. Is this seller breaking the law?
Am i right in thinking, that unless you are asked, you are under no legal obligation to disclose that the car you are trying to sell is an insurance loss.
Also that if you are asked, and you know it is an insurance loss, than you must say so, or you are now breaking the law.
Following that on, when you purchase a car and receive the log book in your name from Swansea, will it not state then, that the car has been subject to an insurance claim?
If my last question is true, how can any would be seller who has owned the car in his name, Not know of its insurance claim history.
I still stand by original statement, that if this guy is deliberatly trying to swindle someone, he should be shot.
I have nothing against insurance loss cars, as this was my first point of entry into TVR ownership, with a cat D S3 that i purchased from a salvage auction some 6 years ago. I had the car for 3 years, put some time and money into it, and enjoyed every minute, but i fully declared the cat D loss in my advert to sell it.
I agree TJC46, i didn't want my initial post to come across as sour towards the seller as i wouldn't want to disrupt anybody's chances of a sale. My worry is i myself would be really pi**ed off if i have spend that kind of money and then later find out it was a cat D, therefore i thought it was only right to inform people just in case anybody is interested.
As you say if the seller informs a possible buyer that the car is in fact at cat D and the price is right and both parties are happy there is no harm done.

Never saw the ad,and wondering what it was up for?
Took mine out yesterday to look at a trade-in at a local garage and tonight the bl**dy thing won't start...must've taken a huff!!
Had done a deal at £7500 as I just want to move it on.....1994 5 litre....was running OK!! Reckon it's worth a little more but not thousands.
