get the bible if you are serious, covers most items.

check chassis outriggers and braces (you can see the fronts at the back of the front wheels with full lock on)
run your fingers down the tubes that run front to back on each side and get down and have a look!!!

remember a bit of surface rust can be easily fixed.

make sure all clocks and guages work.

before you test drive let it tick over and keep an eye on the temp guage and listen for the fans kicking in. also pop the bonnet and have a look if its been uprated to twin fans- some early griffs had a single fan set up.
remember that they do get a few stone chips on the front due to the low frontal aspect

listen for any cam noises or ticking coming from the engine - the cam can be an issue with tivs as can exhaust manifold bolts working loose (they can sound similar)

check for service history and any bills.

i know this sounds a bad list of items and there are more (buy bible) but remember you are buying a car that may have seen some years under its tyres.

AND dont forget its the supercar bargain of the century!!

Best advise would be to get someone with some Griffith knowledge to go looking with you, but perhaps don't waste their time on the first visit - take them back to the one you really want. If you're in the Midlands I would be happy to come and have a look, but I'm sure there are better qualified people than me.

Hi David, get yourself over to the Lieghton Buzzard meet on the 26th will be a few tivs there including my Griffith, would be happy to chat about things about the Griffith.

see www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=110520&f=65&h=0

Where are you in Northants, theres a TVRCC meet every month in Northampton, theres a few Griffith owners who go there that i am sure would help.

Apart from Steves book which has the best byers guide and picking Dusty's brain i have a few pointers here
Unless your confident at buying yourself thers a couple of people who will do the donkey work for you
Rob Ingleby for one, his site is www.findasportscar.co.uk/

If you are getting a pre cat, take a pair of ear defenders until you get used to the noise

A serious piece of advice is take your time when you are looking and make sure you get the right one
