What's reliability and rebuild time like at 500BHP
Discussion
Dont get any ideas that I'm jumping into a 500plus HP mod just yet but was wondering what the reliability and rebuild times are like.
What's the cost of a 600HP engine build
Do they go bang or are they reliable at this horse power.
Would be good to hear from those that have experienced it!

painfully slow actually
That's right as my post says I'm not looking to jump in and do it but would be interested to look at the process and costs!
Sorry about the painfully slow response but I've just been out for a Miss Daisy in the old Nob,took forever to do a lap of the lake

I think I'll jog tomorrow instead then I'll get back earlier to read all the posts!

Thanks interesting stuff, I'm looking for about 400/420 after the re map with what we have done! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Hi Barry generally the std engine with cast pistons has been ok for up to 500bhp and 420lbft of torque , only upgrades needed are injectors and valve spring along with a turbo upgrade .
My old engine did 44000 miles and 10000 of those miles running close on 500bhp .
My latest engine failed because of a bent crank , hopefully now sorted !!!

Must have taken ages to do all those miles in such a painfully slow car....My old engine did 44000 miles and 10000 of those miles running close on 500bhp .

Juno, basically as Simon has said 500 is not too difficult or expensive to achieve & has been proven to be very reliable if done properly with a good base/engine & gearbox to start from, LSD is a must. What's the cost of a 600HP engine build

For road use this is more than enough power & on trackdays will usually match any other road going car if peddled properly, especially if by shaun!
600 bhp is a completely differant story & we are still kinda finding our way as new issues arise, deep pockets & lots of maintenance.
Mine gets used mainly on track & had a hard season last year with minimal issues but because it's more of a race engine it will need regular rebuilds if used as l do, if for road use with some trackdays then l see no reason why it shouldn't run reliably.

the issue with 600bhp is its relatively new territory... and those of us with over 600bhp are doing the development and thus its not cheap.
worth mentioning that in road trim 600bhp has proved pretty reliable... its the track work thats needing a lot of extra development, I want mine to be able to go on track for an hour at a time at 100% full power at all times, on a hot day and be reliable, realistically a stock noble wouldn't cope with 30mins in these conditions so its kinda relative.
most who have high powered cars use them on track... in fact does anyone with 600bhp NOT use theirs on track?
As with modifying all cars for track... its only as reliable as its weakest link, and there are a lot of weal points when you run around twice the power and torque that the original car had.

Thanks to everyone for all the info, 500BHP sounds like a good place to be for a road car with reliability and at resonable cost.worth mentioning that in road trim 600bhp has proved pretty reliable... its the track work thats needing a lot of extra development, I want mine to be able to go on track for an hour at a time at 100% full power at all times, on a hot day and be reliable, realistically a stock noble wouldn't cope with 30mins in these conditions so its kinda relative.

In my case the extra 100 BHP Over and above a sensible 500bhp would not be worth the pain or cost as we all now know that I have the Juno for track work!
I'll work to 500 when I get bored with the 420 !
I am now considering signing in as the
as I have such an Ultra Slow Noble

I do hope DaddySumo has got rid of that bad back
