Escort Mk1 1300E Carb issue ?

Anyone else had this problem. My 1300E has trouble running from cold. Starts ok but without any choke at all and only stays running with throttle otherwise it stalls - won't just idle. But after a couple of minutes when it starts to warm up it run fine snd runs fine during normal driving. I have refurbed the carb with new jets etc and set it up as per the manual but still got the problem - better but not solved.
Stock 1300GT engine with a 32 DGV Weber carb.
Any tips ?

I can only go by what I remember from my dad's old Escorts and Cortinas. Any sign of crud in the float chamber? Vacuum hoses and diaphragm(s) all unblocked and not leaking?
