X Type estate tailgate

For some reason, I cannot get the glass hatch to open although the whole tailgate does. Is it locked some way or other?? It was working fine previously .....

Water gets in to the switch, causing it to fail usually because the rubber seal has started to perish. If you prise off the cover with a flat bladed screwdriver you'll probably see that the contacts are damp. On a sunny day remove the cover and allow the switch internals to dry out. I put vaseline around the seal to make it water tight. It worked for a while but eventually failed again.
