Had a good old chat with wooly this afternoon re his wheel refurb, then we got onto the subject of tyre/wheel sizes and mentioned that his 350 tramlines. My 450 tramlines also on particularly bad roads and we are both running 225 section tyres.
I had a 4 wheel geometry set up last week so i know thats all ok.
Any ideas chaps? I'm sure |John (wooly) would be intereste din this also.
FYI i'm running approx 24psi in the tyres and have new sh drop links, ball joints, track rod ends.
Only thing i haven't done yet re front suspension is wishbone bushes. I've alo experimented with different damper settings but to no real effect.
Anyone else's wedge tramline?

That's quite a high pressure for 225's. I would run 20f/22r. I think that's the right way round.
I have 225f/245r and run 19psi all round, or sometimes 20.
I think one reason for the f/r difference is a slight difference in weight distribution.
Anyhow even when you get it optimum yes they do tramline on rutted roads - you just have to live with it or go a different way...

Mine does every now and then, I think it is a lot worse on a poor road, like on the A143 before the Scole turnoff, All my Car's do on that !I had a 4 wheel geometry set up last week so i know thats all ok.

what tyres are you running jim? i have problems with tramlining on my CLK (225/40/18) if i run directional tread patterns like toyo's/falken 452's with V pattern tread but by changing to an asymmetrical makes a huge difference.
My CLK has 245/40/18 rear and 225/40/18 front and it tramlines so I guess its just low profile tyres that cause it even when the car is set up correctly.Slightly OT,
But its always baffled me a little, most people say 20F/22R due to weight distribution , but the wedges have a 55/45 weight distribution F/R so I would always thought it should be the other way round. which is how I run my 400SE.
I run it the other way on the racer though, but this is due to the front doing more work, so the fronts will run hotter, and hence increase in pressure. and I try to get all pressures the same when hot.

p zero's are asymmetrical aren't they? i'm guessing tyres are newish so changing now would be a tad expensive!!! don't see that the rears would be a problem.
I've just had a look and yes they are asymmetrical Edited by al 350i on Tuesday 17th April 22:52

I'll get it out and reduce the tyre pressures if it ever stops raining!
Leigh yes i wondered about f/r also so was gonna stick the same in allround, say 20?

I'd say go 22 all-round, and maybe check them when hot, after a good hoon, balance them out, and then re-check when cold, and then use this value.

Hi Jimbo...Dont you have a recommended pressure rating on the tyre?..A 2bar difference between front and rear should suffice..Wether is front or rear bias...Us fat blokes need more in the rear tyres..I run it the other way on the racer though, but this is due to the front doing more work, so the fronts will run hotter, and hence increase in pressure. and I try to get all pressures the same when hot.
..I got PAS so the fronts are not an issue...
...ZigaI think personally its tyre width which has a baring whether it tramlines or not,a narrower front tyre maybe the answer but I can't get narrower on my wheels unless I can change the outer oz wheel dish .
Thanks for chatting with me Jim,its helped me with my direction re the wheels refurb and its always good to share banter on the phone, john.

yeah - change them all to space savers all round! Nice and narrow...
I'm not saying that the pressure change will help with this but it's a cheap fix and worth a try.
Zig - you don't really mean 2 bar do you ;^)
Yeh,28lbs in the rear and zilch in the front should do it!I'm not saying that the pressure change will help with this but it's a cheap fix and worth a try.
