Cerbs for sale...

I wonder if, at some stage, ph classifides will have no Cerbs for sale?
Time will tell I guess but at present on the classifieds today there are only 10 4.5's for sale.
10 cars is a small number, and of those 10 how many are in really great condition? And of the 10 on sale that are in great condition, how many of them tick all the personal preferences of a prospective buyer? (i.e., colour combo, old/new lights,alloys,seats or whatever)
And of the subset of cars that are for sale [which are in great condition, and meet personal preferences of prospective buyers] how many of that small minority are owned and maintained by dedicated people that have spent more precious time and money than the car was initially aquired for addressing their weaknesses and learning their esoteric faults and features in order to understand them, make them the best that they can be and ultimatly drive them as they were desigined to be driven!?
... not many I would think?

I would also say 10 4.5's is quite a lot. Furthermore, there are still plenty of very good cars in current ownership. I think what you will find is that the slightly more ropey cars will diminish over the years, and the good ones which have had money spent on them will remain- you never know, it might be good for residual values.
I know I have no intention of selling mine (unless circumstances change)- it's a 4.5 RR and has only done 16k. It's a peach of a car and I would be quite distraught if I had to sell!!

Think at the moment we seem to have a few owners keen to get their hands dirty.this i think will show potential owners that ths is a car that can be worked on ...and this forum in particular seems to offer a friendly guidance which i have never seen before.These cars are special in so many ways and i for one wish i had bought one years ago....worth every penny,and more...ps i think many will be abroad soon aa this seems to be the market.lets not forget that the forty plus male who loved these cars as a lad can now afford one if lucky....thats where the market will lie i think...plus a few lucky whipper snappers seem to want em.
Completely agree with Spongy and that's why I got rid of my 911 for a Cerb.
When the 911 went wrong it cost about £2.5k and the subsequent boat ride to the dealer caused a further £900 of work/damage.
The Cerb WILL cost more in the long run but when she starts you just know it is money well spent!

Its just the smell of wee wee from little accidents that might reduce the value. I for one would be very interested to see just how much a well sorted Cerbera could fetch these days !

)) There are many things that can be done that improve the performance, reliability and longevity of the car. And I have to nail my colours to the mast and say up front that I think styling is spot on and the factory hit the nail on the head from the off. But... there are so many upgrades that contribute to else, save styling, that I'd love to have them listed so that I could at least try and replicate in my car.
I think a cooling chip (if it's stock map) is a good upgrade to have.
And if you have to change the clutch then a RP slave is a really great idea.
Also, since these cars are getting on, silicone/stainless hoses is a good idea.
And should have no leaks/weeps from the engine, gearbox or diff?
I guess a sorted one should pull like an express train in 4th at 2000 rpm as well?

If you were to put such a heavy filter on any vehicle that has ever been made I would expect the result to be a very small number let alone a car that was only made in small quantities.Time will tell I guess but at present on the classifieds today there are only 10 4.5's for sale.

My point was more trying to indicate that if someone was looking for something specific and well looked after then they might struggle. Which leads me to wonder why you can pick up such a beautifully rare car for such a small price?

I might be mis-reading you here, but surely that's the reason they are cheap, buyers won't spend big bucks on these cars because the specific car they want just isn't available. Sellers know this so have to price low, as they understand the buyer will probably be compromising and these compromises cost money if you want to make the car more to your liking, eg when i bought my 4.5 i compromised on the interior, i wanted light, got dark, £3k to change? didn't like the LW pod headlights, so factored in a front end re-spray/headlight blend £2k, and of course i didn't get to do either because it cost me £4k just on servicing and niggles. That said they are way under-valued.
just something to think about but a cerbera between 1997 - 2000 would have cost between 40k-45k depending on spec/engine size, to be selling for 10k-20k now depending on condition is pretty good going and you'd be hard pushed to find another car from this era that is holding its value to similar levels. porsche 911's were 60-70k now sub 10k
