Evening all,

I'm giving some serious thought to parting company with my current weekend car and going for something more focused and fun, ideally I would like a nice road legal track car, something like a clio williams/pug 106 rallye/clio sport something of that nature but I don't want a tatty car, I'd like a well prepared and well presented hatch in the same vain of the R26-R megane, ie stripped but painted inside, flocked dash, very clean clutter free engine bay etc.

The problem that I have is that I am a total spanner with a spanner and as such would need to put my hand in my pocket and lay out for someone else to build the car to my prefered spec, does anyone know of any decent one stop shop type of places where i could potentially roll up with a reasonable base car and get bodywork, suspension, brakes, engine etc completed.

I'm based in Essex so somewhere local would be ideal so i could keep a close eye on things.

Many thanks, Dean.

Sounds an expensive way of doing it. Maybe look for one that has already been done.

Agreed, it would be much cheaper but I've only seen a few pug rallyes in the sort of spec i'd like and never seen a williams in the sort of nick I would want which is why I have started looking at laying out to get exactly what I want.

Does it need to be road legal ?
I'm wondering where all the cilo cup cars go and all the other cars used in saloon/hatch racing..

For the same money as converting a FWD tintop into a track car you could buy a caterham off the shelf which will be better

I would be buying a early Megane 225 (04/05 ish) and making my own r26r. Im sure you could do it for alot less than a real one.

Plenty of decently prepped Rallye's coming up on the Rallye Register mate - but if you've got your heart set on a RCW then good luck to you! I'm sure someone will have a ready-prepped one.

Rogue Motor Sport will do you an MR2 race car.

Nickson Motorsport do full cages and I think general prep as well for whatever you want.

For MX5 race cars :-

Think these guys were always recommended :-

May as well go for something a bit more fun that a warm hatch, how deep are your pockets a V6 3000cc Supercharged, widebody mk3 MR2 race car would be rather fun.

Or how about a Supercharged Honda Elise / VX220 etc Lotus based :-

unfortunately if you give someone the entire job it will end up expensive frown

I'd look for a second hand one that might not quite be to your tastes and get it modified some more

I drive past this place in Hertfordshire every day.

They are racing in the MG Trophey and the MX5 championship. I think they are mainly into bodywork but they might be able to help point you in the right direction for mechanical bits and bobs.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it worked out cheaper to just buy an R26-R than to get a motorsport venture to spend many expensive hours and festoon many expensive parts on a 2k hatch. Like the idea though, I really miss my old semi-track prepped clio 16v (the one that had a fair bit in common with the willy)

Thanks for all the links, plently there to have a look through, i guess getting something in good shape and spening a few quid getting it how i want it is the way forward....I'll get myself over the the rallye register and have a gander, I've seen a couple of very nice series 1 and 2 pugs with 16v conversions amnd could easily be tempted by one, I have owned a few clio willy's in the past and loved them to bits hence my desire for a well prep'd track/road one.

How much have you got to spend? I see 106 track cars fairly regularly. Have you considered a 205 or a mini? Quite a few of those about too.
