Shipping from California to the UK?

lads, I've been intrigued to learn that apparently there is a roll-on, roll-off style boat that you can transport a car on from California straight to the UK on. I haven't been able to find out for certain via Google, but has anyone else heard of this? I was told it costs around £600 per vehicle, which I find an amazing price. Can anyone help?
Yes, you can ship a car, with the vehicle on the deck and not in a container . . . . it has a few more negatives over using a container (easier to damage / get pilfered from, covered in salt water spray etc.
My 2p, is that for the savings, its not worth it, as the extra cost of a container can at least be partially made up by stuffing the empty space in the container with spare parts

My 356 came over in 2008 and it was circa £1500 in container.
I shipped my Corvette out to Baltimore RO/RO for an extended holiday in the US and then left it with the shipping agent in Long Beach for the return journey also RO/RO . The car took two months to arrive back at Bristol docks and was absolutely filthy but undamaged. Amazingly it still had a full tank of fuel and the only things missing were a pair of trainers that i had left in the boot. The only worrying thing was that the agent at Bristol told me it was not unheard of to have the car off loaded at some point on route if they needed the space for one of their regular shippers . Luckily this did nt happen to me but glad I did nt know this was a possibility when I left the car at Long Beach.
When I bought a new Corvette in LA the following year I chose the container method . When I collected the car at Chatham Docks the shippers were unloading a very mangled Maserati. It looked as if the container had had a very nasty mishap. Luckily my car emerged from the container in perfect condition Whichever method you use make sure you are fully insured!
