Missus is possibly giving up the everyday use of a car. I have a 535d, her an Aygo. Need to keep the beemer for general family stuff and will really only need the one car 99% of the time with very occasional need to both be driving at the same time. Tho she quite likes my car and would drive it if pressed, I'm thinking if we ditched the Aygo I could replace it with something more fun, which a) would serve as a weekender, b) as an occasional 2nd car when needed, and c) might be more appealing to the missus than a 'big' E60.

Criteria: minimum '2+2' seats, soft top preferable, £6-10k ish budget, entertaining, classics considered!....

As a theme, if there was such thing as a 4 seat MX5 it would probably be along the right lines!

Ideas?

Or a 3-series.

A local garage is flogging a Triumph Stag for 7k – 3l v8 manual.
And you’ll have some cash left for maintenance.

You might squeeze into an older 1 series at that price, it’s got a ‘small car’ feel to it compared to a 3 and it’s RWD.
Audi A4. But it’s a soft top cruiser, not a sports car.
But you may find that both are too much like you daily drive.

Something totally different – like a Jeep Wrangler or an old Landy.

Not sure if it would be classed as entertaining, but what about an Audi 80 Cabrio? You'll save a whole chunk of your budget - even for a good one - and it seems to fit all the other criteria. Also approaching classic status too!

Over budget and located in spain.
Apart from that it would be a great little car.

Also, you could probably get a VW conversion beach buggy for that money.
A local chap has a 4 seat one that he drives round in on sunny days with his family.

Over budget? It's £8250

, £6-10k ish budget,
What's wrong with driving home from Spain? Epic adventure in an adventury sort of car, and the flights, petrol, hotels and ferry would all still be within budget.

Or E46 320.

Oh my, there's leftfield and then there is that! I quite like it but cant see it being practical or popular with the missus!

Think the Stag might be a bit too classic tho i do like them. Scary stuff about the Triumph V8 reliability and MPG put me off! Like the 1-series (and A4) but as you say probably a bit too mainstream. Wrangler is an interesting one. Probably fun in a whole different way!
