Discussion
Hi Mate..Not entirely sure what you had fitted originally, It was probably a LUCAS part..I have a brake light on my dash for the handbrake but there is no switch fitted so it passes the MOT..Hope this helps..Cheers..Ziga

I would check it mate..The new MOT laws have included that any dash lights that either stay on or do not light up are an instant fail..The clause is: Where fitted...NO switch..NO problemo..Ziga My wedge as all wedges could be a little 'unique' but my current wedge chassis #5391 and my previous, chassis #5205 both have/had switches on the handbrake (buried below the handbrake gaiter), the switch on the master cylinder is for low fluid level.
A search of the net shows this, not 100% if it's identical but if not very similar. Clicky
The SS1 was a Ford parts bin special, so perhaps escort/fiesta of the era?
Chris.

Thanks Mark (and all).
Mark, your link led me to Lucas part SMB 421 34933, which I believe is the correct replacement.
"The new MOT laws have included that any dash lights that either stay on or do not light up are an instant fail..".
Your laws seem to be a bit stricter than over here in Canada, as a malfunctioning light (such as the brake warning light),doesn't appear to be a factor in our safety check, which is done when a vehicle is sold and allows the vehicle to be plated by the new owner and back on the road.
Thanks, Paul

So if i have a handbrake light on the dash ( i do but not lit) but i dont have a switch/remove it then i will be ok?Jimbo
I have just been into the garage and:
1)I do not have a switch underneath the handbrake below the handbrake/gearlever gaitor and
2)I definately do have wiring and a bulb in the dash panel where it is marked (P)
Is it more likely to be the bulb or the switch (presuming i have one somewhere)?
Thoughts please chaps
Jimbo

Do you have two wires attached to the brake fluid filler cap (on the master cylinder)? If so, the lamp is probably only connected for low fluid level and not handbrake as well.1)I do not have a switch underneath the handbrake below the handbrake/gearlever gaitor and
