Chimaera Hood Stitching
Discussion
Hi, does anyone have a recommendation for a hood stitching company in the NW Kent area-ish? (I live in Bromley but am happy to travel a little to find the right place.)The stitching has come adrift in the top corners of the rear window and I believe it's a job best done professionaly with the hood removed from the car. All advice gratefully received.
had the same issue in the corner of my roof when i bought it. Trimmers wanted around the £150 to £250 mark including VAT.
Ended up buying a needle(heavy duty) and waterproof thread and doing it myself - cost me £1.79 for the needle and a quid or 2 for the thread.
ps. it took a few hours but felt good afterwards -

Thanks for this Ropps. Normally I would patientlly sit down with the needle and thread as you suggest but time precludes this option with so many other demands in life. I will bear it in mind though and see if anyone else has suggestions.
If its just the stitching on the corners starting to go I can recommend Shoe Goo.Sounds odd right?
You can buy Shoe Goo on EBay and it's the best stuff I have found for all sorts of sealing jobs.
Use as little as possible between the roof fabric and the screen material, I used some strong magnets either side to apply pressure on the joint while it set.
The Shoe Goo creates a totally flexible and watertight permanent seal & one of the few things that actually bonds mohair hood material to the slippery screen plastic.

Using this stuff can get a bit messy, it goes off very quickly especially in hotter weather, work fast and remember "less is more".
Thanks for all the input. I particularly like the Shoe Goo ChimpanLucky, as it sounds like it would stick aything! Not sure I'm brave enough to try it though. If it started parting again it would be a pain. Since obtained a quote of £170 + VAT to replace and stitch brand new window at Monsoon in Lower Dicker, East Sussex. Sounds like the way to go for longevity.
I got mine done recently in Chessington which isn't too far from you. I got a replacement screen, and obviously everything restitched. Really great job for £230. http://www.carhood.com/contact-us/
