Garage alternatives

Hi all

I get my Noble back in May and since i do not have a driveway the Nob can be seen from the road. This has not been a problem so far as its a low crime area, however i would feel more comfortable if it could not be seen from the road.

Building a garage is out of the question so i am looking at alternatives. I do not like the idea of a car cover as im anal about paintwork and it will get scratched.

Does anyone have any ideas as for alternatives? i saw this, but its just a glorified tent and wouldn't work as i want something more permanent

I've had it 5 years and it still standing considering the rubbish weather we have although it has already begun to tear from the wind. I don't like the idea of covers too as they could damage the bodywork.

I had one of those, a mini tornado ripped it up out of the ground and the leg damaged my clam before it blew away.

Node, I like that although it looks a bit tall for a Noble! Do you know how high it stands to the highest point? I fear that if i put something big up the neighbours will be round having words!

Dont forget u need to be able to walk in and out.

I'll get a measurement of its height for you, but Its tall enough to open the rear clam without taking the car out.As for the neighbours, just disguise the thing with flowers all over it . Chris i think you'll need some sort of underground bunker with tornadoes whizzing around.

The problem is that i have my living room window right behind where i would place this thing and that sits at about 2m off the ground. saw these, but not sure if they can be used outside or if they make a opaque one!

Maybe i should just build one!

The first one is the only way you are going to get it low due to the side access.

But i seriously think that a car cover and just teflon protect your paint is the better option, it would certainly look nicer in your driveway.

The problem with any car cover that touches the paint is that unless the car is completely clean it will get scratched. For some reason im almost OCD about having a clean car with no scratches!

After a bit more searching ive found this which looks perfect and not much hassle atall

The only problem with the outdoor carcoon is that you have to spend 10 mins putting it up every time you take the car out. I want something where i drive up, lift over, secure, job done!. If i was storing the car for a while without moving it then i would be getting a carcoon

You do know that you don't need planning permission for a Pre Fab garage?

Thats why i mentioned teflon protecting the paint..but i must admit that folding garage looks good and is probably easier than a car cover..good find .

Our neighbour enquired and was told it was dependant on size, height and type of roof.
Apparently if you want a house styled tiled roof (whatever you call It) planning is pre-requisite.
ETS Pre fab is allowed as it's classed as a temporary building

there are guidelines which are set out for any building work, if you stay with in the limits you can build without permission.
i managed to just get my garage roof up the day befor they tightened the law which massively reduced the hight of a building you can build if within 2M of a boundary.
I built 8m long 3m wide with a tiled roof and no planning!
Lets hope i'm in the right. lol

Built my garage last year to 30 sq mtrs so you dont need building regs.
Still needed planning so allow say £600 for drawings and fees.
Built mine with tiled roof for about £10,000

Planning is not generally required as long as its not one of the following..
The proposed building goes beyond the front elevation of your house (unless you have a very large front garden).
More than half the area of your garden is covered by the proposed building.
The building is more than 3 metres high, or 4m if an apex roof.
The garage is within one metre of your existing house wall.
The building is going to be attached to the wall of a dwelling.
Building regs are not required either as long as internal floor area is below 30m2 and any walls within 1m of a shared boundary is constructed of a (mainly) fire resistant material.
All the above go out the window if you live in a conservation area or home is listed or national park etc.
