Hi Guys,

In the last month I've purchased a Tiger CAT E1 from a collegue at work as a bit of a project car and I thought I would share. It's running a 2.0 Pinto engine, with twin weber 40s.

The car had sat around for a few years in our works car park and he has just put an MOT on it to sell. To bodywork is in excellent condition, but the chrome lights have some rust spots as does the front suspension (hopefully an easy fix).

This is my first kit car, and only driven it a handful of times so far I am in love. The rawness and and the performance on offer is sublime for the little money I bought it for.

But it's not without issues, and I need some advice on carbs.

It has a spluttering problem at around 3k-3.5k RPM. It doesn't do it when it's cold (not sure if it has a choke or not), but does when its up to temp.

I've already changed the spark plugs (they were rusted in) to make sure its not an ignition problem, but I fear that would happen across the whole rev range.

The previous owner told me the carbs were tuned at the MOT last month, but I can't help but think something needs adjusting one them.

This is the first car I have owned with twin carbs so any advise you be appreciated:

A Google will find any number of instruction sheets on how to tune and balance your carbs which will be a good place to start. It will allow you to tune the idle settings and balance and give you some indication of any jet changes required.

If doing this yourself is not your thing then come see us over in Fareham. We are now the manufacturer of the Cat and have a rolling road so can run your car up with a gas analyzer to see what is happening at your 3.5k 'stumble'.

The little lever at the very bottom of your carb pic is the choke. As can be seen it is not connected.

Thanks for the advice Steve, I've found an exploded diagram on the Weber website. It idles fine so no adjustment needed there, but I'll take a look at playing around with the main jet.

If I have no luck, a run out of Fareham might be in order.

Cheers

The only things easily adjustable on DCOE carbs are throttle stop [idle speed ] and idle mixture ,main jets are replaced bigger or smaller not by adjustment be care full what you play with if in doubt leave well alone!and find some body who knows what they are doing --not a knock but have seen to many carbs bksed by well intentioned fiddlers

I did not know you could not easily adjust the main jet. The previous owner supplied some larger jets, If I installed them would the rest of the carb need adjusting around them?
