Does anyone have any photos or information regarding the above car. I bought the car at the end of last year from Martin Curbishley who raced the car in super modified.

Im just looking for some history on the car , I beleive it was built around the year 2000.

Thanks

I might have some photos somewhere as he raced against my Dad a few times when he raced in Super Comp.

I believe it was debuted at Shakey in 2001.

Have a look at Jons site here: http://www.specialistindesign.co.uk/paintgal3.htm

I would contact Jon and Sharon as I'm sure they can help you.

I would have a look through Togs old archives...

Thanks for the replies, I have just seen the car on the link to his website, I was under the impression that the car was all orange as I had only seen pictures of the front.

I shall contact John through his website to see if he can fill me in.

The car has changed a bit since then.

If anyone does have any pics they could post that would be great,

I know, I remember seeing the vette racing at santa pod and thinking wow. When it came up for sale I had just sold my 69 camaro so I jumped at the chance.

As for the magazine, I have been told it was street machine july 2001 and I have just found it on ebay

Maybe but for me to be anywhere near competitive with my pump gas motor I would have to use the nitrous and then my cam has to much lift (0.748") where the limit is 0.600" I believe

Yeah the cam's too big and 572" would make the car too heavy as well. Just wishful thinking before the class disappears :-(

Whats going on with class is it finishing that would be a great shame because really good budget heads up class

It's not finishing yet no, but i can't help but fear it's heading in that direction (just look at the big bang entry list). The days of 8 car fields (and larger) like when we were running seem a thing of the past. It's very sad actually, yes I'm biased, but i hold super mod very close to my heart. With more interest it could be a truly great class. It's a thinking person's class where tuning still comes to the fore rather than just choosing your dial in. I don't know why there isn't more interest, it isn't particularly more expensive to run in than super pro, and the satisfaction of getting your combo right is literally euphoric! I can only assume that learning to tune a clutch, a nitrous system or a chassis just doesn't push people's buttons anymore.

I have to agree, I think its a great class, and much rather race heads up, but as is the case the person with the most money usually wins.

I didnt think about Sumo before I got my new engine built

You say my car would be too heavy, is that to be competetive ? It weights 2450 lbs with me in it

the rules were devised to stop money guarenteeing you would dominate,
Fred Hone probably has the smallest budget of any of then but is always a front runner
with a 572ci the weight break would mean your car would have to carry a LOT of ballast.

That's the beauty of super mod though, to a certain degree money doesn't matter. There's no fancy cylinder heads, no billet clutches, no exotic parts. Go and have a look around Andy Hone's car next time you're at the track, i guarantee it'll change your perception that he with the most money wins. There are absolutely no frills on Fred's car, right down to the 20 year old carbs and intake. It all comes down to getting the tune up right, simple as. As far as heads up racing goes it's probably the levelest playing field in the sport, you can have the biggest budget in the world, but the only parts and setup that's of any use are the same as everyone else runs due to the constraints of the rulebook. My comment on weight was purely down to your engine size. Super mod operates on a weight per cubic inch basis, so a 572" lump would mean you'd need to carry plenty of ballast. Our Camaro with a 509 big block, clutch and nitrous had to weigh 2797lbs...but weighed 2820lbs anyway! I know your current set up isn't particularly suited, but to anyone else reading this, don't be misguided by common misconceptions that because it's a heads up class you need to be a millionaire. We jumped up from super gas and evolved the car over a few seasons, just as all the others have.

Totally with you on that Lee, its a great class and a shame to see numbers dwindling as they are. As Graham's said in previous threads British drag racing lacks innovation, forward thinking and seemingly has a dislike a bit of hard graft! Similar story with the NFAA and class numbers, shame.

As was pointed out to me yesterday
Super mod isnt in as much trouble as the domestic alcohol fc and dragster classes,
with Derek gone and Dave Wilson and the Turners doing only Fia rounds, there is a total of one TMFC and Zero TMD
makes super mod look good!
I was at the super modified AGM i thought we was guarenteed 5 or 6 cars every round rolleyes
