Oil level on 3R & dyno graph after service
Discussion
I’ve just got the 3R back from Noble Motor Sport where its had a full service, i also took the opportunity to put it on there rolling just to make sure the fuelling etc is OK.
They did comment that its in really good shape which was good to hear, which was nice to hear, it as come back with a prob though :-( when we collected it the petrol was on the low side, so finding a petrol station was priority, 8 mls on we found one, but when i climbed out it really did smell of burning & looking at the engine cover there was a haze coming from the drivers side vents on the lid, lifted the eng cover, but i couldn’t see where it was coming from? my thinking was maybe some spilt oil on the exhaust wrap, so we carried on to the first services on the M1 to check it out, nothing all OK, back in York i took it out for a good run on Sunday Morning, as soon as i pulled up the smell and haze were there again :-( Had another look but again couldn’t see anything that pointed to a oil leak, tbh i suspected maybe the new oil hoses etc for the oil pressure/temp gauge which was fitted whilst it was there, they seem fine.
So after the above mumblings :-) the question?
The oil level on the dipstick is about 15-20mm above the max mark (When cold) maybe thinking to much oil which might be linked to the oil smell & haze??
The dyno graph etc
Out lads got a Supercharged Honda S2000, after its mapping session last week its making 430 BHP at god knows what RPM :-), After having a go in it i was 50-50 if it could be a match for the 3R, It isn’t :-) having owned a few V8's in my time i really love the grunt they have and iv always been surprised that the Noble as very similar characteristics but just more of it:-) The T28 VNT's seem to be doing there thing with the instant grunt which was born out with the dyno results, Mike (NMS) seemed impressed and commented that its the best of both worlds meaning the torque curve/BHP It certainly goes like ---- i cant even start to imagine what its like to be in the 600 bhp club :-)
More important though the question re the oil level? :-)

Have you got an oil cooler fitted and what is the path of the lines?
After some work last year mine leaked slightly onto the exhaust causing smoke as you describe (but quite serious for a few minutes)until it burnt off, had to get them replaced to sort it out.
Suppose its deffo worth a look, its a RPI Engineering oil to water cooler. After some work last year mine leaked slightly onto the exhaust causing smoke as you describe (but quite serious for a few minutes)until it burnt off, had to get them replaced to sort it out.
What Steve said..
Plus the oil should not be above the max...probably 1/2 litre too much in...last time i put too much in it may be coincidence but i sprung a small leak from where the oil returns meet the sump..
If these are new oil returns they need good jubilee clips and they need tightening good as they compress and after a week need tighteneing again...where the oil return connects to the turbo, it gets far too hot here and they split, the metal part of the pipe to the turbo needs lengthening and the top part of the oil return needs to be heat insulated properly between the jubilee clip and the silicone hose.
When i say good clips i mean ones that are flexible so that they take shape better, the ones that look stronger are not so good sometimes as they go elliptical when tightened..
Another thing to look at it the oil feeds to the turbo, they can drip.

Cheers for the comments, tbh i mentioned the tail extensions for the T28 oil returns whilst it was at NMS but was told that it isnt really needed, past experience tells me not so, i had this prob early last year with a split on the Turbo end of the hose, i asked Viper Performance (with pics) if they thought there Fluoro hoses would cope with the heat from the Turbo's, they reckoned it would be a prob, i ended up replacing the hose & using some of the silver reflected heat protection with the clip over the top of it, it still didn’t stop me panicking if it split and emptied the sump :-( tbh it was the 1st thing i checked, think ill have to take the under tray off and have a good look around, saying that everything looks fairly clean with no obvious leaks.
Just out of interest, what do most do with the T28's fitted re: the oil return hoses? Heat protection? or extended tails?
