Whilst searching for sound files I came across several sites talking about the upcoming Doom 4!

Now there will be a reason to upgrade my GFX cards.
No news on a release date yet but it won't be on the PS3 as it cannot handle the graphics so it is PC (and wierdly Xbox 360 only).

Cannot wait for this.

Ooou I remember getting mentally excited about Doom 3, think I was a little bit dissapointed in the end because the game play it was too dark to see anything.

Still, looking forward to it! (prob still be another 3 years away!)

Doom 3 was good but it freaked me right out. I'll be interested to read reviews of this, but not make the mistake of midnight solitary gaming with too much diet coke.

Doom 3 was the only game that genuinely scared me!

Imagine if it was co-op!

Doom 3 was horrendously resource hungry for it's time. My pc still struggles a little with it and my pc plays bf3 just fine. I agree with the above though I hope it isn't as dark as the last one.

I uninstalled Doom 3 after about 30 minutes because everytime something jumped out of the dark it was accompanied by this ethereal scream.

I seem to remember with Doom 3 it was walk into an area, doors closed, nasties came out of the dark, once you cleared the area you could progress and repeat.

For real pants filling F.E.A.R. did it for me

I thought Doom3 was awful.

Walk into a room. Room suddenly goes dark and a previously unseen/hidden doow opens behind you and nasties come out shooting you in the back.

Kill nasties, go to next room, repeat.

Oh and not being able to have the torch on whilst wielding a gun was utter ste.

I would imagine that has more to do with Microsoft rather than the capability or lack there of, of the Playstation.

We've come a long way with shooters, even since Doom 3. It will need to be more than just pretty, as Rage has recently demonstrated.

Yes the torch gun thing seemed daft but that was a key game maker. It built the tension and added to the sense of helplessness.

At the end of the day the game is set way in the future so why don't you start with a chain gun with underslung rockets and a floodlight attached? Because it would ruin the tension.

ID do need to come up with something special though, they can't just make the graphics better and expect another hit. Half Life and HL2 changed the FPS world with it's story, traps, characters and set pieces.
Doom 3 and Quake 4 were just a bit too old fashioned game wise when they came out.

Any news on HL2 E3 yet?

There have been rumblings about HL2 Ep3. Valve employees wearing Ep3 T Shirts and such, but no actual news. Knowing Valve, it will either never happen or it will come completely out of the blue.

Half life being the best game series ever made. I think I'll buy a pc specifically for it!
