As per the title, I took the S for its first good run out this year, up to Kemble as I`ve been working at the airfield. On the way home the brakes felt a bit spongey but got home ok with two sets of tunnels too wink The next day to my horror my brakes ceased to work yikes I knew I`d run over something in the dark and didn`t pay much attention as it didn`t sound to be to large. After close inspection I found a fractured copper brake pipe and the reservoir low on fluid eek So today I`ve purchased a pipe flaring kit and a roll of copper pipe.
I spoke to Clivef, a self confessed metal expert hehe and apparently copper age hardens, which I suspected, but it becomes brittle. Now I suspect that my brake pipe took a whallop and fractured, so new brake pipes are on the menu and they`re not going to get polished !!!!! I think lady luck was on my side this time.

Are you using copper, or cunifer? Cunifer is much tougher, but harder to work.

Hi peter, I`m using copper, the first pipe has been made and fitted.

I'm looking forward to meeting Steve at Spa, though hopefully he won't be behind me laugh

I dont think you`d want to be to close behind either, I have a rather sporty exhaust note wink

Hmmmm, you have raised a thought there. All my brake pipes are pretty well protected and secured and I dont think they would be work hardening. The clutch pipe on the other hand has no flexible section (S1) and has to take up movement between the body and the gearbox and does wave around in the air a bit. I also suspect mine is copper. Wonder what the likelyhood of a pipe fracture is?
