As the title says, would it be worthwhile or a waste of money getting an inspection done on an OPC car with 2 year warranty on it?

Assume you mean Extended rather than Porsche warranty... If so, I would get one done if I knew I was going to modify the car (e.g. out a decent radio in / cover it in cling film), because once you have modified it if you have any issues your claim may be rejected. If not then can't see why you would need to unless you don't trust the sales bod?

There is a car I have seen with well over a year OPC extended warranty left on it and am considering getting Peter Morgan to inspect it for me

Waste of money or wise decision?

I recently bought a 7.1 RS from an OPC and I had an inspection carried out by Peter Morgan (Bob Spratley actually). Several issues were identified during the inspection and subsequently rectified before I handed over the cash. The car has a two year Porsche Warranty but I wanted to ensure there were no issues that had me trailing back and forth to the OPC. Well worth the inspection in my opinion.

and the issues were???

Personally, I would not bother - the OPC warranty is good enough for my piece of mind!

I wonder what they really do check apart from things like date on tyres and detailing every slight cosmetic piece of damage. I insisted on an 111 point check as we bought our Boxster from a non OPC garage in May last year. As I posted on here at the time, when I found a previous MOT certificate (online) was showing 20k miles more than when I purchased the car I contacted the OPC who had recently conducted the 111 point check and they basically told me that if someone had done a good job of clocking the car then there was little they could do to confirm or deny whether it had been clocked, which I found somewhat surprising. I then took the car to a different OPC who performed several checks and were able to confirm that the car had not been clocked, but it looked like the previous MOT had recorded the odometer reading in km, not miles.

Last week I took my car for its first MOT (some 4k miles after its last MOT 11 months ago), where it failed owing to a substandard repair close to the shoulder of the rear tyre. In the time I have had the car I have not had any punctures so the tyre was in this condition when it was sold to me and also presumably at the time the 111 point OPC check was conducted (based on the tyre details recorded on the report sheet). The MOT tester said if that tyre was fitted to the car 11 months ago then there is no way it should have passed an MOT back then. I'm getting a new set of tyres fitted at Costco tomorrow so will be having a good look at the rear tyre before deciding whether it is worth having a whinge at Porsche about it.

OPCs are like any other dealer, pressure is put on the workshops by the sales department due to in some cases tight margins. OPC does not mean perfect car by any stretch of the imagination . Warranty should cover most issuses but not all so be careful , it's all about the money , as Jessie J says biggrin

I`d save my money and spend it on fuel. The OPC warranty is extensive and the fact that you will have purchased the car also will go in your favour if anything happened. I was under the impression if you got it from an OPC you got the full 2 year warranty / porsche assistance etc. I know I did.

Brake ducts worn down, leaking radiator(s,) no fire extinguisher, wheel catching liner on full lock, battery defective, exhaust mode switch not working and some cosmetic defects ie stain on seat etc. All after the Porsche check prior to putting on sale. You pays your money, you take your choice.

Yes I would get an inspection done, especially if bought from an OPC. They're not all that thorough and they don't always spend what is needed to prep the car to a high standard. Just go and look at the stock on the forecourt at OPC Cambridge if you don't believe me!

I'd do my own checks on MOT history etc. and have a good look round the car for any obvious things

then, as long as it came with the warranty, I wouldn't pay for any other inspection

but, if there did turn out to be anything wrong, there is no doubt at all that it would be put right by the supplying OPC

All those would be simple to spot ( except for maybe the Battery one , but then the car would not start if it was that bad ) if you looked round the car properly and test drove it. Even if you bought that car with your eyes shut they would all become apparent within minutes of owning it and it would then go back to be sorted.

Buying from an OPC gave me piece of mind that if anything went wrong then the warranty will cover it. Excluding going backwards into someones front room of course ! I have no intention of modding my car which of course makes any OPC warranty void , so bare that in mind if you want to change things like brakes discs etc etc

I agree with this. Get them to stick it on the ramp for you at the OPC, borrow a decent LED light and have a good look around. HPI it just to be sure, take the details off the V5 and pull up the old MOTs online (if relevant). Get them to do you a print out from the diagnostics computer showing you the history including the over-revs (my one was all in German but pretty easy to work your way through if they help you). Assuming all that is ok, Id buy without an inspection. Good luck

So in theory you could do it all yourself which is good if you can.

Just FYI mine came with a slow oil leak (10 months old) and I spotted it 1 month later after seeing oil drips on my floor. Silverstone said it was a leaking cam cover which was not sealed properly from the factory. Fixed under warranty.

An OPC would never sell a re-shelled car - so no need for an inspection...
