engine numbers

anybody know how to prove an engines age by using engine numbers and if there is any way of getin written proof of it? as im getin a project k plate mini with cat and wana take it out but for mot ill need it in unless i can prove the engine is b4 they used cats

Get an older numberplate (A reg or something), bung that on (officially, via the DVLA) and just pick an MOT station that doesn't bother to check...

how do u do it officaly? do u change chassie plate?

It's just changing the number plate - buy a cheap private plate, preferably one with an age related number, like A123XYZ and bung that on the car, as per DVLA rules on getting a private plate, then find a garage that simply doesn't bother to check the age of the car and just uses the numberplate as a guide for which emissions criteria to apply...
