There are different types of "days".

There is the solar day - the exact time between two noons.

There is the siderial day - the exact time between the rotation of the planet that results in the stars being in the same position as they were in the previous day's sky.

They are not quite the same due to the fact that the earth and sun are actually travelling around each other and the time variation betyween solar noons is a bit different to "siderial" noons.

It's probably what caught Theresa May out yesterday.
