Can any of our resident BiB's explain this .

Driving back from Devon today just after the Gordano services , and I really wish I had had time to turn off and take a piccy .

A yellow van about 400yds from the M5 , concealed in trees/bushes with a 40ft telescopic pole with a damn "Scamera" on it !

I fail to see the point of hiding a camera if it is for "safety" purposes , in my opinion it was only concealed to INCREASE REVENUE .

Must be another of Obersturmbahnfuhrer Burntasses ideas !

I was under the impession that ANPR vans didnt have to be bright yellow which this one was. I stand to be corrected.

I saw one of these in Watford a while back - yellow van with telescopic things right up in the air. Think it was some sort of traffic flow survey, as there were people armed with clipboards all over the place as well.

Don't think it's a scamera, although I wouldn't put it past them...

M6 Penrith, M1 J15 Northampton, M5/M4 Bristol are all actively monitored by the pratnerships. Not to mention the fixed camera's on roadworks.

This sounds like traffic monitoring. There is a regular one on the M40, White Van with huge telescopic pole with camera on top.

Just a guess but in my local freebie newspaper there was an article a few months back about the Bib using mobile CCTV. In summary there is a dirty great tower with the cameras at the top. It can be moved to various locations as and when required. Bearing in mind yesterday was one of the busiest days of the year for traffic going down the M5 to the Southwest it may well have been used for additional traffic monitoring.

Hornet's right. These contraptions are normally traffic survey vans.

See a lot of CCTV vans around here and not all of them are normal police colours with "CCTV unit" written on them
