I'm not an avid cyclist (my gut shows that), but I found the article interesting.
In my opinion also makes a lot of the modern day cycling champions look a bit meek in comparison.
ETA I do read threads in here on the odd occasion
I've got a Ruckus I-Drive GT 2.0 mountain bike, which is definitely way beyond my requirements (I think the term used was "Over-biking" or something like it) Which I use to go to work on on the odd occasion, but was bought mainly to make me slower when I go out for rides with the girlfriend (and if I'm honest, cocking about)

An amazing achievement - got a mention in this earlier thread.
Amazing.
Would be very hard to beat even with the lighter, faster bikes we have now, long distance records have only improved by around 10% over the last 50 years.
Massively increased congestion and danger on the roads would make it difficult I'd imagine not to mention the risk of bike theft when sleeping rough!
