Well our frog eating friends have really lost it this time! As of July every car must have a French approved breathalyser kit in it or its fine time! That is until you read that they're not implementing it until November.

Anyone know any more about this?

There are also some new rules about speed camera data on sat-nav's that are coming!

Just buy one and be done with it if going to France.

another excuse to punish foreigners.

and another reason to enter France at 30,000ft at 500mph, and leave it very shortly thereafter.

Yes, they are for sale in my local Leclerc supermarket, right next to the high visibility vests. They cost about 1.20 Euro. Must have one breathalyser per car, but as the OP statedit won't be practically enforced until Nov 1.

Just another way of squeezing money out of us.....c'est la vie.

Yup, carry 2 of them. You can buy them at the petrol stations by the port for a quid or two a pop IIRC.

Having lived in that country for a number of years I'm very happy to have yet another reason never to go back.

At that sort of price it will hardly break the bank, will it?

Besides, their presence will be handy to help throw them off the scent of the lack of beam benders and high-vis jackets that I've not carried over the last 7 years.

If they can unilaterally introduce this sort of legislation, how is it that we're not allowed to extradite a bloody terrorist without arse kissing? I know it's not the same, but Christ!

The fine for not having one is 11 euros. So no need to get all excitable.

From experience, giving them one reason to fine you even the smallest amount is all it takes for them to invent 10 more to clean you out faster than an enema with a fire hose.

Indeed.

I note with interest that it's about 30 minutes drive from Calais to Belgium,
where the rules are slightly different.
