Put a small deposit on this... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3770001.htm
Went to see my uncle ( a van trader ) and he thinks i shouldnt get it however if i do he wants a drive in it haha. What he said whilst i was there has put me off a little and now i dont know wether or not to get the car?
He rekons 18mpg round town but i though driving sensibly i could get about 25?
What do you lot think i should do?

bummed atmDid you not do any research on the car prior to putting the deposit down? I'd be surprised if the economy would be as bad as your uncle is making out, but that depends on how heavy your right foot is. Besides, if you're flapping about a few MPG difference, are you sure this is the right car for you? Do you know what your insurance will cost, maintenance costs in the event of any problems? I hate to sound patronising but I'm going to guess the answer is no to most of these!
So you (a) put a deposit on a nice car without considering fuel consumption, (so what?) and (b) are shedding tears now because your uncle says it's a bit juicy?
It's not as if you'll be driving it on the road, is it? The legal minimum age is 17, not 10.
If you back out I hope the seller keeps your deposit. You'll have to do extra paper round shifts to catch up again.
Fknl....

Not gonna get in arguments with anyone so i wont bother quoting the assholes
Im 20 so this would be my first petrol head car
I have insurance sorted. 1500 for year fc in my own name etc
Fuel costs from reading i was expecting 25mpg as i generally dont race about.
My uncle was saying things like if the motor for the hood goes it'll be about 2k etc. (Money i dont have at the moment)
And no stfu im not booing i just dont know wether or not i should, thanks to those who support it
and 100 quid deposit i wont cry over either.
As for the cat d bit it was a rear bumper and rear panel. Nothing serious but the my text check says cat d write off?

Well. My honest opinion and I don't think you'll like it.
When I first saw the advert I was shocked a 06 plated non S car would be worth £9495. Then I saw it was a write off
Then I looked up the stats.
It isn't particularly fast
Its quite poor on fuel
The running costs are high
The tax is band M
I take it is registered before 23rd March 2006? If not, the tax is £475p.a.
I wouldn't even consider that car in all honesty. Holy christ, imagine when you try and sell it on
fuel guzzeling old Audi, repaired write off.
Best of luck to ya.

So, if your uncle is clued up on buying vans and, presumably he has some knowledge about cars too, why didn't you consult him first?
You're young so can be excused but it's better to use those who have learned rather than going through the learning curve yourself.
Something I read decades ago, "If you can't afford to run it when it's new, you can't afford to run it when it's secondhand".
Sheds and bargain barges are a different approach and are not £10k.
