Looking at trading in my Focus against a MK 2 Sport. Car is in great condition and nice spec. Good service history and only two owners, but the mx5 ( a 52 reg) had 107,000 miles on it, which worries me a bit seeing as the focus only has 70k on it.

Will I end up loosing all the value of the MX5 as soon as I buy it due to the high mileage?

How well do mazda's take the miles?

Are many problems likely to occur and cost me lots of money?

Cheers

If you're thinking of using a MkI, II or 2.5 (more-so with the later cars) as a daily all year round then you're going to get rust problems at some point - rear of sills, rear wheelarches and under the bootlid - inherent design issues with these cars.

Mechanically they're strong though.

Hehe snap my Focus goes on Saturday for a Mk2.5 biggrin.

As long as the car has been well maintained and the rust hasn't got hold I can't see 107k being an issue (then again my last one had 47k on the clock and the new one has 49k)

This. The biggest killer on MX5's is rust, and you'd get that whether you'd done 7k or 107k.

Yip. Buy on condition, not mileage.

A thousand times agree. When the body of a MX5 has rusted away to dust, the engine will still be going wink
