out with the old in with the new (cam)

Stripped my engine today and removed the camshaft (the ticking was getting worse), i have found some pitting on the follower faces and some rounding of the cam lobes.
What cam shaft shall i go for ?
Piper 285 is coming out tops at the minute from RPI due to the fact i have been talking to Chris this week.

Mines an early griff and can shunt a bit in slow moving traffic so i want to get rid of that.

But i like my power and dont want to sacrifice any of that !!!

404 hydraulic cam (if they're being produced at V8 Developments yet)

Fabulous cam, loads of power and tractability...

dam near as good power wise as the 404 mechanical cam which is a belter for power.

I was speakin to robo the uver day and he said the 404 hydraulic cam actually made a few more hp than the mechanical cam! have 2 agree tho, the 404 is a belter of a cam. I had a piper 285 in my old 3.9 but the 404 is better in my opinion.

I am about to buy a griff 500 and mod it up, to a silly spec.

Looking at your profile you have already done it, any tips?

I am speaking with Tower View Racing doing nearly as much as you have done.

Bought a 285 from RPI with all gaskets and followers plus the preload shims for £295 all in.


Just out of interest anyone fitted their own cam?

I totally rebuilt my 5.0ltr motor, so if u need any advise give us a yell

V8D 218 hybrid cam is really nice and oodles of torque low down and mid range. Ran it through my pc which said it was the best all rounder, then fitted it. It is good Sure with other cams you can gain a few more bhp at the top end but you lose massive amounts of torque low down, is it worth it, not to me.
