Replacing or Repairing Monitor Audio Studio 50 Speakers?
Discussion
Hello fellow audiophiles,
I have a pair of Monitor Audio Studio 50 Speakers, that are in a bad shape. Need two new drivers per speaker, 4 in total, costing about £600. My question is, is it worth repairing these speakers or, replacing them with something new?
Is a £1500 pair of speakers going to sound better than my old 50's, once they are repaired?
Been out of the hifi loop for a while and don't know what's good or not. Most of the names I remember seem to be bankrupt or very expensive these days.
Cheers for my ears.

What's wrong with the 4 drivers ? Are they open circuit ? Metal cones damaged ? Distorted ?
Wilmslow Audio and/or DC Boultons are likely to be able to fettle your speakers for a lot less than £600, Studio 50s were great when new ( early 90s iirc ) and imho there's been very little progress since.

Good, just checking if it was worth the effort. Both speakers have one mid and one tweeter open circuit. New drivers from MA are £150 each. Interesting websites, will contact them and check it out. I only managed to have a look at one speaker with basic inspection tools, so I hope no too much damage has been done to the other drivers or to the bass drivers. They ended up this as a result of party antics.Wilmslow Audio and/or DC Boultons are likely to be able to fettle your speakers for a lot less than £600, Studio 50s were great when new ( early 90s iirc ) and imho there's been very little progress since.

Now I am getting excited about getting them working...
