Well having had my 130i now for 10 months and must say what a cracking car. My yearly mileage is creeping up and in 10months of ownership I've racked up 15,000miles.
Unfortunately I think its time I moved to a diesel :-( and this weekend I'm going to look at a (sigh) bluemotion passat (sigh)

:-(

Go for a 123d, I really enjoyed mine. Quite nippy when remapped too, apparently.

I do about 35k a year, just ordered a new f20 118d m sport, should return 50mpg+ for me, currently getting 50ish mpg from a 2009 120d

Its 140bhp but feels quicker than my 177bhp 120d, i had a hire bluemotion passat and it was awful to drive as it had so little power, it will be a big drop down from a 130

Why not try earning more money instead of downgrading your car? Just a thought! biggrin

A friend has the 1.6tdi Passat estate Bluemotion with winter pack and dab

Have to say its super comfy
He does c30k a year and is on a fuel card but even with that he always gets mid 60's from it without trying. We once went up to Scotland and back with cruise on all the way 70mph... Anyway the thing averaged nearly 80mpg!!! That was four big men with a boot full of luggage and booze. We did a bit of driving round up there too and covered nearly 950miles... It showed as still having 150 miles to go on the tank....

It's also a great car to take big things to the dump or buy big things.

I'd consider one for the wife when they get down to the £3-5k mark

Mine averaged 41mpg overall in the 25k miles I had it, about 50 / 50 town / motorway driving. At no time did I make a conscious bid to drive economically, so more will be achievable.

Good gains from remaps - takes it to around 265bhp and 360 lb / ft IIRC, with better mpg. Good power delivery too - quite linear with the turbo set up.

I'm aware that they are low in power. I just need something slightly more economical than the 130. I'm never away from the petrol station.

Bluemotion Passat... we have the 2,0 140tdi. excellent economy. 1085miles to when the fuel light came on. last weekend we drove to see family in Hamburg which is 720 miles door to door, we were back almost to the french border when we filled up on sunday evening on the drive home. averaged 65mpg with cruise set to 75mph.

Spoken like a true Company Director (complete with goaty beard wink ). FWIW I'm getting near 50 mpg out a 320d Touring with a full boot of parts and tools. If I tread lightly (like when idiots were panic buying fuel a few weeks back) I can get 60 mpg. I don't know if the new models are more efficient, but you could maybe get an 'ED' model which is still around 163 PS and more mpg than my 180 PS version.

Don't do it, when I worked at VW the Passat was possibly the most god awful car in the current model lineup, cheap interior plastics, far lesser build quality than you would expect, dull driving experience, all in all it's a " white good" car nothing more

If you must go from the 130i, try an equivalent 1 or 3 series diesel, far more capable car, and you won't feel it as such a downgrade. When I bought our 335d i was at VW, it certainly rubbed some VW blinkered members of staff the wrong way when one of the technicians was buying a BMW to replace his dull as ditchwater VW

I've done the diesel thing and now looking to get on a bike. There's nothing worse than sitting in traffic , not even frozen toes

Excellent idea - spend £30k to save £20 a week in fuel! smile

It's OK...I didn't as the firm paid for it. My personal car is averaging 26mpg and my RS2000 didn't get much more last time I had it on the road. However, there must be plenty of 320d available for reasonable used car money so no need to spend 30K I'd have thought.

I do find it strange that some buy an £xxx car to save fuel or road tax money.

I've just gone diesel for my every dsy car, what a different it makes.
I've gone from 18mpg to just south of 50mpg, much less filling up to be done.
I think this is what i need.
I'm going to have a look on sat, haven't ruled out the equivalent BMW diesel.
Always thought I could justify the 130 as my mileage was less than 10,000 and now it's rapidly increasing I need something that does more mpg.
