My company hack Insignia has just been in to have a glow plug and the turbo hose replaced plus 3 new tyres. Now this cost upwards of 800 notes (my company in it's infinite wisdom took out the lease unmaintained), do you think it's unreasonable to have expected them to give the car a quick wash at the very least?

Personally, I'd be mildly annoyed if someone washed my car without asking me.

A garage not washing a car is as shoddy as a person making a basic grammar/spelling mistake in the in post title.

£800 :0
3 new tyres plus fitting = £400?
Glow plug = £20?
Turbo hose <£50?
Labour on glow plug and hose = maximum £140

I'd want a detail with that hehe
If the tyres are a premium spec brand then I guess it's fair money and a car wash wouldn't be warranted.
Do Kwik fit do car washes? hehe

Someone washing my car for me would annoy me, but I would be pleased they put the effort in.

I ask anyone who see's my cars not to wash it though.

I asked for Continentals and I made sure that I was charged a fair price for them. No Kwik Fit don't do car washes but this was a Vauxhall dealer. I have mostly had VAG cars in the past and nearly every time the cars have been in for anything they have come back washed, so I didn't think a quick going over with a bucket and sponge was a big deal. Obviously it is for Vauxhall, just as well I only have 3 months left on the lease.

Who cares? Car was is £5-10.

Main dealers and decent indy's will normally wash a car if they have time / at request.

Probably just down to manufacturer or dealership. I had a few Toyotas and they always came back washed and vacuumed, had my Ford serviced yesterday and they didn't wash it. Fair enough IMO.

I gave the wife's mini a valet (inside and out) the day before dropping it off for a service at Sytner.
When I picked it up, the receptionist gayly twittered, "your car is ready and we've given it a complimentary valet sir".
Shame they missed the greasy mechanic's hand prints on both wings then eh!

As I said, it's a company hack, as long as it looks clean it's fine.

I'm not really ranting or even that angry about it, it just seemed a little odd given my experiences with other marques.

Poor form. Friends (old) Subaru went in for a small amount of recall work, final bill = £0. Car was returned beautifully clean and the dealership were very professional and friendly, nothing too much trouble. This is a marked difference to the dealership who used to have the Subaru franchise a few years ago!

BMW cleaned my car the last time I was rear ended. I wish they hadn't have. The swirl marks were incredible  horrific quality for a body shop.

I always ask garages specifically NOT to wash my car, regardless of company policy.

They normally use a dirty sponge and then a drying blade thing frown

I found with Merc main dealers it was the other way round, you would take your car in to be repaired and the repair was never done or badly done but the car would always come back washed.

So I would say your onto a good thing if you get the the car repaired.

Also I found when they did wash the car it would come back worse that it went in with smear marks and scratches, so I would have to get the bucket sponge and scratch X out after they had been near the car.

whenever the RR goes to the local Landrover dealer it is washed with a Pressure washer (visible from the waiting area) and interior vac'd. My other cars don't get washed when having work, but then they go to specialists who don't charge the earth.
