Hiya,

Is anyone going to their local record store day tomorrow? I was going to, but the three shops nearest to me don't have copies of what I'm looking for. frown

So if anyone is going, can they please let me know? If you are, and you'd be willing to pick me up a copy of the record I'm looking for, I'll send you some nice beer vouchers in return. beer

I was thinking of going to one of my old haunts in Guildford tomorrow. Dance 2 Records. They're having an instore for the local radio station there.

What record are you after?

I'm looking for the ABBA 12" Voulez-Vous dance mix. (Stop laughing at the back!) If you can pick up a copy if they have one, I'd be pathetically grateful, and of course I'll send you the cash for the record, the P&P and a few quid for your time. smile

And that goes for anyone else who can get one, as well - I'd rather end up with several copies than none at all!

How do you know? Some of the shops I've phoned have the most unlikely selections. smile

Joking aside there are a couple of other places in Guildford that might do that. Dance 2 tend to deal with Rap and Drum N Bass and a few house tunes here and there. If I get time I'll have a bop up to the other side of town and have a look for you.

Well, like I say - you never know. Our local place is much the same - rap, R&B and whatnot. But when I phoned a few weeks ago to ask if they were having any in, they said they'd definitely applied for some. I did wonder why, but I guess it's because Record Store Day is open to everyone, not just people who like rap. hehe

Thanks Miguel, I appreciate your help! smilebeer

I had a quick look but didn't find anything. Is it a new remix/release? I assumed it was an old release.

Thanks for trying, anyway - I really appreciate your help. beer There are loads of copies on eBay at inflated prices today, surprise surprise! The guy at the participating shop in Swindon was going to keep me a copy because I couldn't be there queuing at 5am, but he'd sold out by 9am so that was the end of that good idea!

It's a new release of an old and very limited edition remix, with an old track on the flip. (You can get it easily on CD these days, but it sounds better on vinyl.) The cunning bit is that it's in 12" format and they've used glittery blue vinyl at the pressing plant - designed to appeal to the fans who like shiny things rather than to the fans who buy records for the sound quality!

Not to worry. I'll give it a few days to let the "must-haves" calm down a bit, then I'll pick up a copy at a slightly less inflated price. smile

Oh Ok. I'll be honest I'm not the biggest ABBA fan it has to be said. As for the glitter vinyl aspect. Have there been improvements in "novelty" vinyl. I've a few pressings of singles and albums on different vinyl and the traditional black vinyl has always been the best sounding. Doesn't stop me collecting them though. I'm after the famed chrome pressing of Masta Ace's Sitting On Chrome album.

I guessed as much. wink

Yes and no. There are still sound quality issues, but they're not as bad as they were (although the glitter doesn't help!). I strongly suspect that Universal have released their last two ABBA "collectors' editions" specifically for people who'll buy novelties rather than content - there's this one, and there's a silver glittery vinyl 7", limited edition of 500 that caused fans to come to blows over the few copies available. hehe Pretty, but not something you'd choose to play a lot unless you don't have any other copies of a particular track. Which, given Universal's penchant for re-releasing everything at least a million times, would be unlikely.

Still! I like collecting them. And it's nice to have shiny new vinyl instead of the stuff you find second-hand, which has been looked after with varying degrees of conscientiousness...

I was planning on a trip one of these days to at least two of the shops I called last week about the ABBA release. If I see one, I'll let you know!

They had this in Solo Music, Barnstaple yesterday - shame I saw this thread a bit too late and won't be able to get back there for a while. Perhaps you could call and ask if they'll do it mail-order now this big day is over?

Thanks 1878, I already checked though - under the terms of Record Store Day they're not allowed to offer anything by mail order or online until 9 days after the event.

No problem though, there are loads on eBay. It's just a matter of waiting for the rush to die down so that I don't have to spend stupid money to get one. smile

But thanks for letting me know, anyway! beer

Post here once you're sorted - if I get back to the shop beforehand then I'll pick one up if they still have it.

That would be cool - thanks! No rush though, so don't make a special journey or anything. I think some (most!) of the ones on eBay are overpriced, so I'm going to wait and see if people start pricing them more sensibly.

SGirl - did you ever get fixed up with this? I'll be heading to Solo on Saturday, obviously no guarantee they'll still have one but if they do I am happy to pick one up for you.
