Better have one last check... Clio 172 or something else?
Discussion
Soo i've pretty much determined i'm going to be buying a Clio 172 Ph2. I'm fairly certain i've not missed anything obvious but throw me some suggestions. It's a classic what car, PH to the rescue?
Criteria:
£2000 max budget.
Miles per year: 10,000
MPG: Ideally 28+
BHP/Performance: Doesn't need to blow me away but I want it to be a fun drive. Something with 0-60 of less than 7 seconds would be ideal.
Insurance: Not too bad now i'm getting on a bit
Body style: Not overly bothered but it must be able to fit at least 4 adults and a dog when heading for the hills.

Might be able to squeeze an Integra Type-R?

Or put more too and get a better one....you'll get all your money back when you come to sell.

Good luck getting 4 adults and a dog in an MR2
Good luck getting 4 adults and a dog in a Clio to be fair!
I'm currently hunting down one of these -

Very cheap, good power, good smooth characterful engine, nice a roomy yet lightweight, great chassis, bit of a bargain it seems. Actually quite taken by them having spent the last week researching and looking at a few, looking forward to getting hold of one in next few weeks maybe.
Clio is great, wonderful handling and 28mpg is easy I'm getting 41 atm with a lot of motorway driving. but you better hope the adults in the back are small as I'm 5'8 and there's not room for someone my size behind me, and the boot is teeny but could fit a dog of approx' small collie size as long as you take the parcel shelf out
the other thing is that at £2000 your looking at the rough end of 172's and being french they tend to have a few characteristic niggles, rattling trim and electronic bits and pieces. If you're determined though, go for it

On a side note, does the 182 justify nearly double the cost of the 172??
No. Ive just bought a 172 cup and am quite pleased with it! I came from an octy Vrs and the cup feels like a go kart in comparison. Suspensions a bit hard but I think that's just me showing my age lol. I was worried about French reliability but so far so good, touch wood! I only paid 1.5k but it needed a bit of tlc, nearing the 1.8k mark by the time it was on the road.
