Hi All,
I,m about to try and replace my grille with the correct spec. material. I think it is called Flattened Mesh.
Does anyone know the size of the diamond, strand width, etc.
Any help gratefully received.

Andy. smile

My vixen has got aluminium mesh, which I'm sure is not original, but looks quite nice....and it doesn't rust....

Andy,

Can't be certain mine's original but I think it is. It's also an S3. It is flat strand 2.5mm wide. The internal dimensions for each diamond is 32mm wide x 12mm high.

32 x 12mm sounds quite big to me. My aluminium mesh is more like 20 x 10.... OK, so it definitely isn't original.

I think my wedge front grille is something like the 32mm size....perhaps TVR used the same stuff ?

Don't know how well this photo can be zoomed in on but this shows the grill mesh on my old Vixen. This also shows the mounting of Numbers on front which is how some of the cars left the factory. This car was quite original in its features so is probably a good benchmark. The mesh was quite wide.

Thanks Guys,
Still hard to judge(for me at least hehe )but it certainly looks to be 1" x 1/2" diamonds.
Neil, I would love to put the reg. where it should be, unfortunately with the ignorance of youth biggrin I put a stick on one on the bonnet. Petrified to try and get it off now.

Andy

Why on earth did you sell that beauty Neil.

One of my biggest regrets but at the time funds were needed to pay for the racer habit..Others have also since come and gone but that was the one which I should never have sold. It is in Sicily these days..Still running on its UK plate.

Wonderful Photos.... Wonderful looking Car.

Hmmm... I know my Vixen was bashed in the front, and apparently it had a completely new bonnet.

I now know that the grill and the front indicator lights (and bonnet) ALSO aren't original....

My indicators look like Mini ones (?)

OK, the grille mesh on the S1 Vixen is diamond pattern with size 1.25" x 0.5". Strand width is 0.125". Material is painted steel. I believe this to be original.

Hope this helps

Hi,
I bought my first Vixen in 1978, an S2 YLM2G in that colour! I have never seen another.
Allways regretted selling that too, but, like yours, it had numbers/letters fixed directly to grille, and I think it looks better than a plate.

Clive.

Hi Guys,
Just a quick update. Many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. A HUGE thanks to sTeVeR (Gamekeeper) for the help and guidance, and putting up with my head pecking hehe
Ordered a large and I mean LARGE sheet of correct spec. mesh today.(can,t seem to find a supplier who will cut you just the amount you need)
Should arrive beginning of next week, then I can crack on with the job.
I am sure I will have loads of the stuff left wink

Andy - what was the "original" spec then?

Will you be selling grill aperture sized pieces?

Hi,
Is the mesh in the "little" NACA ducts on the Vixen bonnet the same type and size?
Mine looks like the sort of mesh you get in a plastic padding "hole repair" kit.... recalls happy days making rusting sills "look as good as new"

Screwed up newspaper, maybe a beer mat or two, a skim of filler and finished off with a good dollop of underseal. Good as new smile

Looks just like the mesh I bought from B & Q when I renewed mine, admittedly about ten years ago.

Not a good photo of the mesh I know, but sadly I no longer own the car.
