4 posters make working on cars a real pain. If you have any choice get a 2 poster. You can still use it for storing a car high up out the way.

Look for second hand ones as well. Much cheaper, get it serviced and for the limited amount you'll need it (compared to a commercial operation) it will last forever.

Depends what you're doing.

We have a 2 and a 4 poster and both are handy - wouldn't bother with a jacking beam - either put a trolley jack on the ramp or BIG axle stands under the car (we have 7' ones) then you lower the ramp.

Personally I'd get a used ramp - from £500 upwards

If you want a new one there are loads of Co.s around last time I went to a show at the NEC IIRC there were 2 posters from £1500.

There are various Co.s who supply and fit used lifts - I'd give them a call like this one on Ebay

Try doing that when Health and Safety drop by.

For 95% of jobs. 2 Posters are better. Only time I've used 4 posters out of choice is wheel alignments and MOTs

Both are perfectly safe as demonstrated by the fact we've been doing it for 50+ yrs.

Also self employed are exempt from HSE.

Very low and SWB cars are a pain to get on a 2 poster as are VX220 etc.

Also slower to use if you just want to give a quick check over.

I've had one of these for the last 5 years and for the price it's been spot on...not sure how wide my Vantage is, but it fits on the ramps with a couple of inches either side to spare..

I've a Ravaglioli 3.5 tonne 4 post ramp with a jacking beam. Perfect for my needs

We too have a 3.5t single phase with jacking beam. To be honest, it's more storage and oil change than full work ramp. As stated, far easier with a two post, but it beats crawling around on the floor and I'm not exactly good for much more than a simple service.

It's taken a RR Sport (I'm guessing similar track if not wider than a 355) and Maserati Quattroporte no problem at all.

I'd also vote for a two poster, I got this second hand for £1200, hydraulic three ton that's been working perfectly for about seven years now



Next project is a better workshop to put it in!

I'd always have a two post over a four post given the choice, but a four post ramp is still very useful and far better than no ramp! Note that a two post ramp will typical have more stringent mounting requirements, i.e. greater depth of concrete, longer fasteners etc. than a four post which may rule it out for some locations.

I've had various Ferraris including F355s on the InternBV and "the-garage-equipment-man" (ebay) lifts without problems, they aren't professional lifts, so WONT be usable for everyday use, but as a storage and DIY lift, they are a perfect balance between cost and quality.

If you can get to St Helens, Sam (the-garage-equipment-man) has a few set-up in his warehouse of varying quality, from the DIY ones, through to the trade quality ones I've ordered for our new "rent a ramp" workshop.
