I've seen a car that meets all the criteria I'm looking for in my next car; with one exception. I don't like the colour.

So, does anyone have any idea of the costs of getting a whole car respray done? And what about wraps? What are advantages/disadvantages of vinyl wraps and what sort of cost are you
Looking at?

The car in question is a Mazda RX8, and I'd be looking at a non-standard metallic colour if I were to get it done.

Cheaper to find one in a colour you like.

About the same as buying the car.

Well obviously. But that wasn't really the point.

How long do you plan to keep the car?

The respray will last for however long you decide to keep it, but you'll pay extra for that.

The wrap can be removed for resale if needed.

I like. I wouldn't personally do it to my car, but it works.

Quite easily.
Depends how far you want to go, external only - no shuts, cheap materials, nothing removed, no repairs, just a quick key, mask and paint £350-£1000
Nothing masked, everything removed, glass out bumpers off etc. inside door shuts, boot, engine bay stripped and masked, special effect metallic, quality lacquer, £5000+

A decent respray could be about £3k+ for a full colour change.

Then you have to explain why its had a respray when you sell it.

Thanks for that. That's the kind of thing I was hoping to see. I guess that a couple of grand would cover a reasonably good job?

The idea is that this next one will be a keeper. But even if it's not I'd anticipate near 100% depreciation on RX8s by then. I'm prepared to pay to get the car I want and am not expecting anything back.

Might a wrap be a better idea? How long do they last?

£2000 should get you a pretty decent job, yes, but obviously you'll never recoup that expense when you sell the car. Although that may well be a mute point!

Yup. Anything spent on it is spent on the basis that it's spent and gone. Resale matters little at all

A friend is a Rolls specialist.

He sends them to a guy in Holland as he can't find a good, consistent painter over here.

Cost £8K-14k

Only if you don't want to talk about it (it's moot point). biggrin
