Thanks - hadn't realised they were aluminium, so when the magnet didn't stick.... smile

Definitely the MK3 - just had my 4.0 litre booked into have the timing chains and tensioners replaced as a precautionary measure only to find that the work had already been recently completed before I bought the car - no paperwork to suggest this but very happy either way as the full chain tensioner kit is quite expensive let alone the labour.

Regards all.

That was the thing - I had no paperwork to show they'd been done, so thought I'd better check.

Since doing it, my coolant temp sensor has decided to call it a day - I don't think I disturbed it when I was taking the cam covers off, but at least it's a cheap enough fix!
