Hi All,

I am trying to find another Jago near Kent to buy & have a few questions (I got rid of my old Jago about 7 years ago & miss him terribly!).

As LRP petrol is becoming scarce are the additives you mix with unleaded any good? I won't have the money to pay out for hardened valve seats straight away.

The Jago I am interested in says it uses Cortina running gear? I thought they all used Escort running gear?

Also what year did the 2 ltr Pinto engine run from & to? I am worried about getting parts for the engine you see.

Anyway thanks in advance
Tim

Hi
Some of the additives work quite well and others barely give any protection.
I believe the Redex branded product has been tested independently and was found to do the job.

All current Jago's (unless modified by an owner) are all Escort running gear based. What some people think is bevcause the engine may have come from a Cortina that this means it is Cortina based.
The easiest check is to ask what the suspension is.
If struts at the front and leaf springs at the back then it is Escort.

The OHC 2 litre ran to at least 1993 if not longer so parts should not be a problem.

Make sure you use an additive approved by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) these were all tested a few years ago on an A series engine with a modern (soft iron) head. All worked at least as well as proper leaded.

There is one (Nitrox I think) which includes an octane booster.

Don't chop and change as there are at least 2 chemical systems and they may not be compatible.

I used Superblend 200 in my 1600 pinto engined geep for 10 years with no problems whatsoever.

Don't use the pellets you put in the tank or the fuel line version - a couple of these were tested and one was worse than ordinary unleaded (allegedly)
