DVLA local office change reg details same day?

If I rock up at my local DVLA office on Monday at 0900 with all the documentation to put a personal registration plate on retention, will I be walking out with the retention certificate, new V5, tax disc etc. etc. for the replacement registration soon after?

Or am I just dropping the documents off for them to process when they are ready and I may as well send them in the post...

Dropping off.
Tax / MOT Cert get done by local office and are sent to you in a few days (might do it there and then, but haven't the last few times i've done it)
Retention Certificate & New V5 come from Swansea and take 1 - 3 weeks.

This has changed, I did it last week. You walk away empty-handed other than a photocopy of your V5 if you ask

Everything arrives in the post now, it used to be tax disc and MOT were reprinted while you wait but not any more. To give you some timescales, my tax disc arrived after 3 days, retention cert after 5, and I'm waiting for the rest

Not sure which office you''ve been going to but I've done a few plates at Sidcup. Most recently two weeks ago a plate on retention (Ebay purchase so nominee change) and as usual came home with tax disc and MOT showing the new reg. They send the V5 to Swansea and this arrived at home last week.
