Nice photo of an Opel (Porsche 356 fans may like this too)

I took this photo yesterday morning whilst driving in Germany near the border with Poland.

I joined Autobahn 4 in roadworks, finding this convoy in front of me, all of us doing about 70kmh in the restricted section. Once out of the roadworks, the group put their feet to the floor and accelerated away, I struggled to keep up with them. I didn't realise 356s were so quick.

It was approaching my junction and I couldn't believe it when I saw the lead 356 indicate to pull off.

I took this photo just as we came to the junction at the end of the slip road.

We then drove several miles through the rolling German countryside. I saw them disappear down the road as my journey came to an end.

In 2012 it really is fantastic to see a group of cars like these being driven and used as they should be. A fast autobahn trip then quick progress through beautiful countryside with the sun shining and hardly any traffic - fantastic.

I'm sorry, I couldn't tell because of a bunch of old cars blocking the view. You would have thought the scrap page scheme would have got rid of them.

Looks like a Speedster and a Z8 to me.

Wikipedia says that most of the later ones would have 100hp+ engines and weigh less than 1000kgs as standard, and the body has a very low drag coefficient (internet is suggesting below .3 which is really, really good) so they'll be pretty nippy. Still running a variant of the beetle swing axle though...

They go very well indeed and road holding is pretty good

They were obviously on some kind of club run but even so, seeing them streak down the autobahn at a speed my hire car struggled to keep up with was spine tingling.

To then follow them through the countryside was almost like a scene from a film.

Not sure about the BM, but I'm pretty sure the "new" Porsche is indeed a Speedster.

Late 356s usually had about 100bhp but modern tweeks often improve this a bit, and they are light and slippery, very quick point to point.
