Is it abrasive?

Yes it's abrasive, what are you using it on?

As often as you want, they are pretty thick metal

Assuming they're stainless not coated.

I try not to use abrasive metal polishes more than necessary, probably based on experience with cheap Brazilian VW parts in the past, with chrome so thin it could barely have been shown the plating solution. Abrasive polishes tended to wear through the chrome in no time.

For maintenance, I use Chrome Magic which is a non abrasive metal polish and only turn to abrasive polishes when something needs a little more bite initially. It leaves a protective coating of its own, but I'll often top with Bilt Hamber Autobalm for even more defence against the elements.

If you're refurbishing, then abrasives with a heavy hand may be neccesary. If it's just to keep a good conditioned part that's already shiny shiny, then I would look for something less abrasive and with a lighter touch.
