My Griff 500 is cutting out / no idle, just had service and was fine last week, but today i have no or very low tickover when warm after slowing down, and when accelerating in 3rd it just cut out but came back after releasing the throttle, any advice welcome please?

I have tickover 7-800 rpm on restarting it, hold the revs at 3000 and release it just stops or runs very slow and recovers,
i have cleaned the stepper motor & can see it moving when the ignition is turned on/off, not sure where to look next or is it a trip back to the dealer?

thanks in advance.

Well stepper motor would have been my first suggestion but you have tried that with no luck.
Second would be to check for any air leaks or air pipes that have either come adrift or cracked.
After that check the idle screw on the plenum it may just need a tweek.
After that it's diagnostics on the the electicals.

Wasn't there someone on here recently with a similar problem which turned out to be a Lambda sensor?
Might be worth a search.

Did you clean inside the housing for the stepper where the valve seals?

Thanks for the reply's, as mentioned i have had the stepper out, but i did not clean the housing so will give that a try first, also i'll look for the posts on the lamba's

I was wondering if it was caused by me stalling it just after i started it from cold and somehow confused the ECU? i will try it tomorrow from cold and see what happens then.

I dont think its a stuck stepper if the idle picks up, its doing its job. Check the AFM connections if you are getting weird running issues to start with.

Probably worth disconnecting the earth lead from the battery for 30 seconds to reset the ECU also. Quick to do and free so a no brainer.

Thanks for the advice i'll check the connections to the AFM and reset the ECU, when its not raining so much!

When i reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery will i have to reset the alarm (its the original meta i think).

Alarm will arm when you re-connect so you'll need to disarm it immediately so have the fob with you when you re-connect the battery.

FFG's alarm tip is a good one. yes
No idea if it applies to all RV8s or just my old girl, but once the ECU had been unplugged it would have to 're-learn' idle settings or something. For the next six or ten starts idle would be a bit choppy for a while before settling down nicely. YMMV.

My idle sometimes cut out and engine stalles at traffic lights. (a lazy stepper?)Cured tha old fashioned way. Inserted a 2mm insert under the plenum throttle stop. Keeps the plenum butterfly just slightly open. Ticks over at 900rpm. No more stalling.

Finally got out today in between the rain and had a look, i disconnected/cleaned the AFM, throttle pot and all the coil pack connectors and reconnected them, all seems ok now tickover is 800rpm and when releasing the throttle for 3000rpm it drops to 1200rpm for a few seconds then settles back to 800rpm, i guess this is normal?.

I have not had time to drive i yet so i will give it a go later in the week.

Thanks for all your suggestions, looks like it was a bad connection somewhere.
