Being somewhat of a tart I have 'usually' always gone for cars with lower miles and a lower spec than cars with higher miles and better specs, assuming both were the same year

I am sure this was ingrained in my memory from my old man saying something like 'look son, that ones much better value as it has done 20k miles less than that other one, never mind that the other one has got a sunroof, leather interior, better stereo, better wheels, etc, etc

I know that mileage affects cars values dramatically, but if they have been serviced, maintained and looked after properly, is high mileage a problem? What is considered high milegae these days, 10k a year? More?

P cars are especially price sensitive to mileage...rightly or wrongly..
The best I suppose is to have a balance of the spec YOU want with a respectable mileage. For example, a 10 year old turbo with 100k miles would be considered VERY HIGH - whereas a ten year old merc with 100k would be barely broken in. Whereas about 50-60k would be considered respectable in my book for a 10 year old Porsche.

Thing about mileage is,

Say there are two identical cars.

One has 55k miles, but has never had anything replaced (save for tyres and pads).
The other has 68k miles, but has a lot of consumable (tyres, pads, discs) and semi-consumable (shocks, rads, exhaust) items replaced.

I'd pay more for the latter example in this ficticious scenario.

The mileage issue always frustrates me. Chances are those low miles are anything but.......
