Hy guys, probably not new to the hardened professional Griffers, but I have today checked my oil very easily (Griff 4.3 Pre-cat, GKN Diff O/S Level/fill plug). Rather than faff about with the time consuming method of up on axle stands, then taking the exhaust off, I noticed, when refitting my reconditioned diff in November last year, that the level/fill plug was clearly visible and accessible through the wheel arch with the O/S rear wheel removed! So this morning I jacked the car up, removed the wheel, lowered the jack so as the car was level, then using a long and short 1/2" drive extension with a universal joint at the end to slot into the square recess in the plug, and using the ratchet, the plug easily came undone. Then under the car, put my hand through and removed the plug. Filling is easily done via the wheel arch (the filler is above the rear chassis rail). Cleaned plug and applied PTFE tape, then located with fingers and tightened with ratchet. Job done half hour tops! Now that beats trying to get the exhaust off and all the extra work that entails.

Will be using this method from now on, especially when time comes to change the oil. By the way, I had a slight seep of oil from the plug before, as it had not had PFE tape on the threads hopefully this time should seal it nicely.

All the best, Pete
