£460 Annual RFL. What price point is it unacceptable?

I refuse to go up to the £460.00 tax bill.
I wonder where this is going? All the new cars are coming in with high efficiency smaller engines which will eventually spread right through the ranges of all makers.
I think a total readjustment of the tax system will be coming in the not too near future.

Beat me to it! I used to think along the lines of "it's not going to bother me what the RFL is, as in the grand scheme of ownership costs it's not a huge %", but now that I'm thinking about buying a car in that bracket I'm really thinking where does it stop? In a couple of years, will the top bracket be £1000? Or more?
I think I will be running pre 2001 cars for quite a while - or at least until I can either afford a hybrid or do less miles and get something small.
If they eventually do the monthly payments then i think £20 a month is reasonable, £25 just about justifiable... of course compared to the tax on fuel it's still not a lot...

Look at the price of cigarettes, I remember when I used to smoke (last pack I bought cost £5.80) every one said 'no way over £2.50' which then became 'no way over a fiver' now I see them heading for £10 and they are still smoking.
Fast / big cars are psychologically addictive, we are weak mortals, watch us justify 'oh yes it may be £1k to tax but this is a £40k car new and I picked it up for a song etc etc'.
Look at the price of fuel, and I still have a V8 Range Rover 'cos it makes a nice woffly noise'.

People are clever so we'll just get around it either now as it's high or in the future as it will doubtless keep increasing ... atm we can buy a pre-2001 car & hot it up with a V8 engine etc as indeed some on here have already done (that V8 3 series sounds awesome) - you'll still pay the non CO2 tax then.
