fuel pump noise

how load should the fuel pump be?

In my experience, you should hear it whine for a couple of seconds when you switch the ignition on, then it should not be audible.

Me a nubie as well. Just changed from an ageing TVR to an elise. Fuel pump on my elise is quite noisy as well. They can go on for ages like that. Fuel pump on my TVR was noisy the whole time I had it (about 40K miles). I suggest you turn the radio up and forget about it.
