OK my stupid question of the week
Discussion
Hard as it may be to believe but I haven't yet driven my four and a bit week old V8V in the dark! Is the dashboard button illumination (radio, nav, and other buttons) on all the time when the ignition is switched on? I ask as I sat in the car last night and without turning on the side lights everything was illuminated. Every other car I have owned had to have the side lights on to illuminate the buttons.
All the cars I have owned over the last ten years have had dash displays that light up as soon as you unlock the car. Also have auto headlights / auto adjust brightness at dusk.
Which is great until the stealership services the car and switches the auto lights off. It can take a while to realise what all the flashing lights and waving is all about

Not a fan of auto-lights. Most people who have them are too Which is great until the stealership services the car and switches the auto lights off. It can take a while to realise what all the flashing lights and waving is all about

Dash is always lit, once key in ignition. Brightness can be adjusted by the little rheostat by the side / main light switch. No DRL's on the early cars.
Be careful at night, the dash may fool you into believing you have side lights on.
I think I may just try and get into the habit of always switching on the side lights. They look like DRL anyway Be careful at night, the dash may fool you into believing you have side lights on.

Dealer (in UK, anyway) can set car up with Daytime Running Lights. Avoids fear of leaving sidelights on.
Do you mean the side light front LED strips can be wired to be always on when the ignition is on?Here in Canada DRLs are mandatory. Unlike most other cars, Aston does it by simply having all the lights come on with the ignition (dash lights, headlights, side lights, and tail lights). It's a bit of a brute force compliance approach, but it works well enough and it seems easy to do; has to be done if importing a car from the USA and takes the dealer under an hour.

The dealer told me that it is all software settings now, not wiring changes, but they set my 08 V8VR to have Daytime Running Lights (which I think is actually permanent sidelights front and rear). With a Saab background and a grey (well, Tungsten Silver) car, I like this. I used to put the sidelights on, but was always worried I'd forget to turn them off when I parked.
That is just the side lights on all the time
DRL is just the fronts (as Saab & Volvo have done for decades!)
I do occasionally put my side lights on in my dull grey car for the same reason, plus I'm a serial Saab & Volvo user

Not sure I'd want DRL on the Aston?
I will enquiry when I get the ASM2 update and rear brakes sorted.
I'll probably take some flaming for this,
but I tend to drive with headights (dimmed) and sidelights on all the time.
When popping in and out from under tree cover down little Kent lanes whether it be sunny or not I believe that anything that makes a rapidly moving car more visible is a good thing.
I think it also makes the daydreamer you are overtaking more concious that you're there.
Could be wrong but I rarely have anyone pull out in front of me!

I ALWAYS drive with my sidelights on, as others will testify from our razzes

I said a fast moving car though. Guess that's why I opt for headlights as well
