Surprised this hasn't been discussed here?
John Griffin, owner of Addison Lee, has suggested that his minicabs should use London's bus lanes and that cyclists only have themselves to blame if they get hit by one of his cabs.

Whilst I disagree with his attitude towards cyclists (although God knows, I see enough wantonly stupid cyclists on my commute), I can't find any realistic argument against him telling his drivers to use bus lanes.
If bus lanes were only for buses then that would be fair enough, but allowing black cabs in whilst keeping minicabs out just provides the black cabs with an even bigger competitive advantage than they already have from their monopoly on being flagged down.
Either all forms of taxi should be allowed in, or all should be kept out. Anything else is unfair.

Cyclists acting like a bunch of drama queens again.
Taxis and private hire cars use bus lanes in my neck of the woods.
It's cyclists who should be banned from bus lanes. They obstruct the progress of buses. Bus lanes were designed to aid the progress of buses.

As stand by my point, that if you want to make it a level playing field, then fine... Put the AL guys through the same training, and they'll have the same privileges (sp?)
It's not supposed to be about personal benefits and status, it's supposed to be about moving people around the city quickly and efficiently.
