GF has just been diagnosed with this and has quit smoking which probably caused it in the first place. She is not happy with her weight at the moment and has asked if she can come running with me and do some general exercise that I do Cycling, swimming and kayaking. Is there anything i need to know or any preventative measures she needs to take whilst doing these kinds of exercise? I don't want to injure her or have her collapse on me.

How old is she?

Exercise will help with her COPD but she really needs to build up very slowly, especially as she has just given up smoking. She really needs to give her body time to adjust.

Being thinking about this: is it acute bronchitis? If so, yes it is a COPD condition but not as serious.

Definitely get a specialist opinion.

Nothing to do with COPD but I have been seeing a respiratory specialist since having Pneumonia last year....I got myself referred to him when I wasn't satisfied with my GP. His dignosis was completely different to my GP's.......

If you're in the South East I'd definitely recommend him...or if not I would happily ask him on your behalf who he would recommend in your area. I'm due to see him again in a couple of weeks.

Also a friend of our family who is in his 70's has COPD I know he goes to a clinic at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He told me there is a specialsit research group there and he's getting excellent ongoing care and advice....often if they are doing research you can short circuit the system and get very high quality and frequent access.
