Hi all

My beloved 02 Pheonix is starting to show the dreaded bubbling on the n/s rear arch. I'd like to nip it in the bud ASAP, but I've never had any dealings with any bodyshops before, and after a nightmare last year with my wheels (researched the best garage in the city, only to have them chip all 4 alloys..) I'm more wary than ever of companies I don't know.

Can anyone recommend anyone in the Edinburgh area who would be a good bet, and who won't shaft me? I don't know a great deal about body work or the implications of rust so I wouldn't be able to tell if I was being sold up the river or not.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated folks!

Edinburgh Sport Cars in Dalkieth know MX5s pretty well and restore MGs the rest of the time. Nice guys too.

Looks good, particularly the gallery photos of MX5 sills they've worked on!

i got mine done at edinburgh sports cars. fairly reasonably priced but i wasnt entirely satisfied with the work. could see signs of rust again after only a couple of months. and in the wheel arch and underneath where it was rusting (although not right through) was just covered up with waxoyl instead of being treated which i thought would have been done for the money. also a bit of waxoyl was left on the paint on the lip of the wheel arch. they did offer to sort the problem and treat the rust but i havent got round to seeing them yet as the car got sorn'd for the winter.

Hmm interesting. How bad was the rust? Do you mind telling how much it cost you? And was there anywhere else you considered?

FWIW Andrew seems like a good guy on the email. Doesn't tell you anything about the standard of their work though...

the outer sill was rusted right through with some corrosion on the inner sill. but it was all quite localised. paid 370 for the work. i didnt know of any other places and live quite close by to edinburgh sports cars so never really considered another garage. yeah it was andrew who did the work on mine, nice enough guy. heres the pic he sent me of my inner sill

Hmm I don't know how bad mine is. Have had a few suggestions of other garages in the area on the main Scotland forum, might give them a try first before I take the trip out to Dalkeith. Decisions decisions!
